Adat records, traditions to be preserved using enhanced digital systems

By Eszryeen Kris · 19 Oct, 17:51 MYT

THE Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak (MAIS) is undertaking two information and communications technology (ICT) enhancement projects to improve service delivery and preserve adat-related records and knowledge.

Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said the projects involved the Native Marriage Electronic System Version 2 and the Cataloguing of Oral Traditions System Version 2.

“I wish to update this august House on the digital transformation initiatives undertaken by the Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak,” he said.

Sikie said the council would also be organising six workshops in Kuching, Sibu and Miri to enhance the competency of 120 users of the Native Marriage Electronic System Version 2 from district and sub-district offices.

He said the initiatives would strengthen the council’s role in ensuring ‘adat’ remained relevant to present and future generations.

He added that the council would serve as a bridge between the past, present and future by connecting traditions with contemporary society and future generations.
