DBKU Mayor’s Run eyes new routes in 2027
KUCHING : The DBKU Mayor’s Run could feature a longer route and cover more areas of Petra Jaya next year as organisers look to build on the success of this year’s edition.
Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said organisers were considering extending the route beyond the current 10-kilometre distance, potentially crossing the Darul Hana Bridge.
He said the second edition of the run had attracted about 2,000 participants, an increase from last year, encouraging organisers to explore ways to improve the event in 2027.
“ Alhamdulillah , this is our second time organising the event, and it has been more successful compared to last year.

“Despite the weather not being in our favour lately, conditions improved and allowed us to hold a successful event this year,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met at the venue today.
Held at Padang Merdeka, the DBKU Mayor’s Run 2026 featured three categories – the 3km Fun Run, 5km Fun Run and 10km Competitive Run – catering to participants of different fitness levels.
The run was organised by DBKU in collaboration with the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Sarawak Women’s and the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI) in conjunction with Kuching Festival 2026.

The flag-off was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, together with Hilmy.
Hilmy said organisers were also planning complementary activities to support the run, with more events being considered as part of DBKU’s Car Free Morning programme.
He expressed hope that the event would continue to improve in the coming years and receive strong public support.
