KASUS 2026 brings sports, youth leadership together
KUCHING : More than 400 participants, officials and spectators came together for KASUS 2026, a sports carnival organised by SABERKAS Kota Sentosa Branch to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community ties, and encourage youth development.
Held at Sports Arena Sentosa on October 10 (last Saturday), the one-day carnival featured badminton, futsal and pickleball.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Sau Sin said programmes such as KASUS provided young people with opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership skills, and learn the importance of teamwork and responsibility.
“Leadership is not simply about holding a position. It is about taking responsibility, respecting others and being willing to serve the community,” he said during the event’s closing ceremony.
He encouraged participants to apply the lessons learnt through the carnival in their daily lives, remain active in their communities, and take responsibility for contributing to Sarawak’s development.
Yap also called on young people to embrace the state’s diversity and uphold the spirit of ‘Sarawak First’, saying community organisations and youth groups had an important role to play in building a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous Sarawak.
Meanwhile, organising chairperson, Dr Justine Yong said coordinating three sporting competitions within a single day required extensive planning, teamwork and dedication from the organising committee and its collaborating organisations.
“KASUS 2026 is more than just a sporting competition. It is a platform that brings people together, encourages active lifestyles, builds friendships, and strengthens the spirit of community through sports.
“Sports are not merely about winning medals or trophies. They teach us perseverance, discipline, teamwork and the importance of challenging ourselves.
“Beyond the competition, we hope every participant takes home meaningful experiences and lasting friendships,” she said.
Smiles and prizes mark the celebrations as the winning team receives their cash prize.
