KUCHING: A thanksgiving ceremony was held at Masjid Jamek here last night (Oct 8) in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebrations of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The ceremony was graced by Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who joined congregants and guests in prayers as part of the four-day celebrations.
Also present were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha as well as other dignitaries.
The ceremony began with the Maghrib congregational prayer, followed by the recitation of Surah Yasin led by Sarawak Grand Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
The programme continued with a marhaban and zikir performance by the Kuching Division Zikir Group, followed by a thanksgiving prayer led by the Grand Imam.
The congregation then performed the Isyak prayer.
Wan Junaidi later joined guests and worshippers for dinner at the mosque compound, reflecting the spirit of unity and togetherness surrounding the milestone celebration.
The thanksgiving ceremony was among several programmes organised in conjunction with the Head of State’s 80th birthday celebrations, which will continue until Oct 11.
The celebrations continue today (Oct 9) with a multi-faith thanksgiving ceremony at the UNIFOR Complex.
The main celebration will take place tomorrow (Oct 10), featuring a ceremonial parade, mass gathering and a concert at Padang Merdeka.
The state honours investiture ceremony will also be held at the Astana Negeri Sarawak, followed by a state banquet at the Banquet Hall of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex.
The four-day celebrations will end on Sunday (Oct 11) with a high tea reception at Pullman Hotel.
