MIRI: Sixteen vehicles were seized and seven of 20 individuals screened tested positive for prohibited substances during a multi-agency enforcement operation here today.
The operation, conducted along Jalan Pujut towards the city centre, saw 501 vehicles inspected by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Royal Malaysia Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) and Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).
The enforcement action was mounted to strengthen compliance with road transport laws, tackle drug-related offences and improve road safety.
JPJ Miri said various offences were detected during the operation, including driving without a valid licence, expired driving licences, failure to wear seat belts and technical violations involving vehicles.
Of the 16 vehicles seized, 10 were linked to expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and insurance, while two were seized over extreme vehicle modifications.
Four others were seized after being found to have been driven by foreign nationals without valid driving licences.
JSPT Miri issued 57 summonses for traffic offences during the operation.
The drug enforcement component of the operation resulted in seven of the 20 individuals screened by AADK Miri testing positive for prohibited substances.
Further action was subsequently taken by the agency in accordance with its enforcement procedures.
JIM Miri, meanwhile, detained one individual who was unable to produce valid identification documents.
The results underline the breadth of offences uncovered through coordinated enforcement, ranging from roadworthiness and licensing violations to suspected drug-related offences and immigration-related breaches.
JPJ Sarawak said inter-agency cooperation would continue to be strengthened to improve compliance, deter unlawful activities and enhance the safety and wellbeing of road users and the wider community.
