3 Malaysian tycoon daughters, including richest man Robert Kuok's, make Fortune's 'Most Powerful Women Asia' list
The highest-ranked of the three is Kuok's daughter Kuok Hui Kwong, who serves as the chairman, group CEO and executive director of Hong Kong-headquartered luxury hospitality conglomerate Shangri-La Group.
She ranked 34th on the business magazine's annual list of the 100 most powerful women business leaders across 14 Asian markets.
Kuok became Shangri-La Group's group CEO last August, having served as an executive director of Shangri-La Asia since June 2016 and as its chairman since January 2017, according to the company’s website.
She holds a bachelor's degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University and has previously served as managing director and CEO of SCMP Group, which publishes the South China Morning Post, and a director of the Bangkok Post.
Also making the list are tycoon Vincent Tan's daughter Nerine Tan Sheik Ping (91st) and billionaire Jeffrey Cheah's eldest daughter Sarena Cheah (92nd).
Cheah is executive deputy chair of Sunway Group, the conglomerate founded by her father. She joined the group in 1995 and has worked across corporate finance, internal audit and business development before moving into senior leadership roles, according to The Star.
She led Sunway's September 2025 acquisition of MCL Land, the Singapore and Malaysia property arm of developer Hongkong Land, and had earlier played a role in the merger of Sunway Holdings and Sunway City and the listing of Sunway REIT.
Tan earlier this year became sole CEO at the conglomerate her father founded, Berjaya Corp, after previously serving as co-CEO. She also holds directorships at several Berjaya businesses, including the Sports Toto lottery.
She has led Sports Toto's sales strategies since 2007, navigating it through challenges posed by illegal gaming operations and the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the group's website.
Fortune lists Kuok as a representative for Hong Kong while the latter two are among five Malaysian businesswomen featured in the ranking, with the others being banking executives Ng Wei Wei (85th), Joanne Rodrigues (99th) and Yik Sook Ling (100th).
Ng became the first woman to take on the role of CEO at UOB Malaysia in 2022 while Joanne is the group CFO of Affin Bank and Yik serves as CFO of Public Bank.
