The babysitter was believed to have taken the infant to a government health clinic in Sungai Dua, where he was pronouned dead. BUTTERWORTH: Police have detained a 25-year-old babysitter following the death of a 10-month-old boy who was found weak at her home at Tasek Gelugor here today.

It is understood that the infant had been dropped off by his mother at the babysitter’s home at about 5.40am.

At about 9.50am, the babysitter found the baby weak and lethargic after feeding him with milk several times.

She sought her husband’s help to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before taking the boy to a government health clinic in Sungai Dua.

However, the boy is believed to have died on arrival at the clinic.

Seberang Perai Utara police chief Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed the arrest, and said the case was under investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse, neglect and abandonment of children by those responsible for their care.

The cause of death has not been established yet.

The babysitter is also understood to have been caring for the boy’s two older brothers.
