By Gretta Bala · 18 Oct, 11:44 MYT

MIRI : A 22-year-old entertainment outlet worker has been arrested after police raided a premises here for allegedly operating beyond its licensed hours.

The raid took place at about 2.50 am on October 16 at Centrepoint Commercial Centre, Phase 2, Jalan Kubu, where the outlet was found operating beyond its permitted closing time of 2.30 am.

Police seized several audio devices used for entertainment activities and arrested the local man, who was working as the premises’ counter attendant.

The case is being investigated under Section 24 of the Entertainment Ordinance 2001, which addresses breaches involving operations beyond the hours permitted under an entertainment licence.

Customers found inside the premises were also subjected to urine screening by the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division. No screening results were provided in the police statement.

The suspect has been remanded for four days, until October 20, to assist with investigations.

Upon conviction, an offender under Section 24 faces a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said entertainment outlet operators must comply with all conditions stipulated in their licences.

He stressed that police would not compromise on breaches of licensing conditions and would take firm action in accordance with the law.
