MALAYSIA is pushing to take durian beyond roadside stalls and family orchards as it tries to convince fans that its varieties of the fruit are worth trying.
In Kuala Lumpur, Adrian Choy’s DurianBB is offering alternative durian-themed products.
Meanwhile, Edison Ang has founded a durian experience centre to introduce visitors to the history and culture of Malaysian durian.
Ang said the centre specifically targets customers from China, the world’s biggest durian importer.
China imported 1.07 mil tonnes of the fruit in the first half of 2026, marking a 47 per cent year-on-year increase.—Oct 9, 2026
