Seven crocodiles caught in Sarawak’s Baram River culling ops, including 17-foot giant
MIRI, Oct 14 — Seven crocodiles, one of which measured 17.2 feet in length, were captured during a joint culling operation in the Baram River, Marudi, on Tuesday.
The operation involved licensed crocodile hunters and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) personnel.
The team spokesperson, who wished to be identified only as Goh, said the smallest crocodile captured measured 8.3 feet long.
“We put the bait along the Baram River on Monday afternoon.
“We placed a total of 33 baits in the hope of catching as many crocodiles as possible,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted.
Goh said the team found that seven of the baits had been taken when they returned to check them on Tuesday.
“We were actually very surprised because all seven crocodiles caught were male,” he revealed.
He added that the operation was carried out following complaints from local residents about frequent crocodile sightings along the Baram River, which posed a threat to the community, particularly fishermen. — The Borneo Post
