AirAsia resumes Sibu-Kota Kinabalu route on Nov 2

By Ammar Mirza · 16 Oct, 16:28 MYT

AIRASIA will resume its Sibu-Kota Kinabalu route on November 2 with four flights a week, following engagement with the Sarawak Government.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the airline agreed to resume the route after the latest engagement with his ministry, in his reply to a question from Joseph Chieng Jin Ek (GPS-Bukit Assek) today.

He said the Sarawak government, through the ministry, has been actively engaging airlines to address Sibu’s connectivity needs, including efforts to resume previously suspended routes.

The ministry will continue engaging airlines to monitor connectivity needs and explore opportunities to further improve air services from Sibu, he added.

On the current flight services, Jerip said the Sibu-Kuching route is operated by AirAsia with four flights daily.

The Sibu-Kuala Lumpur route is served by AirAsia with three daily flights, Malaysia Airlines with two daily flights, and Batik Air with one daily flight.

He said the ministry will continue to monitor passenger demand and engage airlines to support adequate capacity and connectivity on both routes.
