Apple HomePod mini 2 Malaysia: S10 chip, 4-speaker surround sound and Mac support, priced at RM649

Apple has finally introduced its second-generation HomePod mini , six years after the original compact smart speaker made its debut in 2020.

The new HomePod mini 2 retains its familiar spherical design but comes with an upgraded chip, new audio features and fresh colour options.

Of course, as expected, there’s a price increase as well.

HomePod mini 2 Malaysia Pricing and Availability

The Apple HomePod mini 2 is officially priced at RM649 in Malaysia. That’s RM120 more expensive than the original HomePod mini, which was previously priced at RM529.

Pre-orders in Malaysia will begin at 9:00am on 15 October 2026 and it will be officially available on 30 October 2026 .

The HomePod mini 2 is offered in five colours: Pink, Green, Blue, White and Midnight. It will be available through the Apple Store online and Apple Store app.

HomePod mini 2: What’s new for 2026?

At first glance, the HomePod mini 2 looks almost identical to its predecessor. It retains the same compact spherical design, measuring 84.3mm tall, with a fabric mesh exterior and an illuminated touch-sensitive surface on top.

One of the biggest upgrades is the new Apple S10 chip , which replaces the S5 chip found in the original HomePod mini.

According to Apple, the newer chip works with its computational audio system to analyse music in real time and optimise dynamic range, loudness and acoustic performance.

In terms of speaker hardware, the HomePod mini 2 retains an Apple-designed full-range driver and dual force-cancelling passive radiators. It also uses an acoustic waveguide to deliver 360-degree audio.

Another notable addition is support for four-speaker surround sound when paired with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.

Users can set up four matching HomePod mini 2 speakers or combine a matching pair of full-sized HomePod (2nd generation) speakers at the front with a matching pair of HomePod mini 2 speakers at the rear.

Apple says the Apple TV 4K can automatically detect the position of each speaker and calibrate audio timing and levels to suit the room.

The HomePod mini 2 can also be used as a default speaker for your Mac , either individually or as a stereo pair.

This allows you to play audio from movies, games, FaceTime calls and other Mac applications through the HomePod mini 2. However, this feature requires a Mac that supports Wi-Fi 6E or newer.

Apple has also introduced a new feature called Sound Glow , which makes the illuminated top surface more interactive.

Instead of merely displaying Siri and status animations, the surface can now glow and pulse along with your music. It illuminates colours based on the album artwork shown in Now Playing, while the animations react to audio elements such as bass and treble.

Sound Glow also supports ambient soundscapes, including rain, with animations that match the selected soundscape. Voice control for Sound Glow requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone running the latest software.

Like its predecessor, the HomePod mini 2 also functions as an Apple smart home hub, supporting compatible smart home accessories.

It also offers Sound Recognition, which can detect the sound of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and send notifications to compatible Apple devices.

Overall, the HomePod mini 2 is more of a feature upgrade rather than a complete overhaul. While the speaker hardware remains largely unchanged, the newer S10 chip, Sound Glow, Mac speaker support and four-speaker surround sound capability unlocks extra functionality over the original model.
