Celine Dion gets her own ‘Titanic’-inspired Barbie
Celine Dion’s new Barbie recreates the navy gown she wore to perform 'My Heart Will Go On' at the 1998 Oscars, complete with a blue jewel inspired by 'Titanic'. (Mattel pic) LONDON: Celine Dion has joined the Barbie universe, with a new doll inspired by one of the most recognisable moments of her career.
The Barbie Signature doll recreates the navy, long-sleeved dress Dion wore when she performed “My Heart Will Go On”, the theme song from “Titanic”, at the 1998 Academy Awards.
Its hair is swept into an updo and paired with silver earrings, while a blue necklace provides an unmistakable nod to the fictional “Heart of the Ocean” jewel at the centre of the 1997 blockbuster.
“It is a true honour to join the Barbie legacy with a doll inspired by one of the most meaningful moments of my career,” Dion said.
“I hope this doll inspires everyone to express themselves with confidence, follow their dreams, and believe in the power of their own voice.”
The Canadian singer joins a growing list of music stars to receive the Barbie treatment, including Mariah Carey and Tina Turner. Margot Robbie, who starred in the 2023 “Barbie” film, has also been immortalised in doll form.
Dion has sold nearly 260 million albums worldwide, with hits including “Because You Loved Me” and the enduring “My Heart Will Go On”. The latter became inseparable from “Titanic” after its release, winning the Academy Award for best original song and becoming one of Dion’s signature recordings.
The new doll also arrives after a difficult few years for the singer. Dion revealed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, and subsequently stepped away from performing.
She returned to the stage last month for a series of shows near Paris, marking another chapter in a stellar career spanning more than four decades.
