‘Do You Know My Position?’ — M’sian Dad Brings Up Bank Role During Dispute With Teacher | WeirdKaya

By Jann Firdaus · 14 Oct, 12:32 MYT

Enforcing school rules can lead to difficult conversations, especially when parents disagree with how a teacher handles their child.

One Malaysian discipline teacher recalled being confronted by a student’s parents after questioning her about allegedly bringing a mobile phone to school.

According to the teacher , years later, they heard that the same student had left home with her boyfriend.

Questioned her for more than 30 minutes

The teacher said the incident began after several classmates reported that the girl had brought a mobile phone to school.

At the time, the school strictly enforced its ban on mobile phones.

The teacher called the student in to ask about the complaints. When she denied bringing a phone, the questioning continued for more than 30 minutes.

The following day, her parents came to the school to lodge a complaint against the teacher.

Father introduced himself as a senior bank executive

According to the account, the teacher and a counsellor were called in to meet the parents.

The teacher recalled that the father began by highlighting his position at work.

Teacher, do you know that I’m a senior bank executive? I have a lot of work to do.”

The teacher said they apologised for taking up his time.

However, the father went on to question why his daughter had been asked so many questions, claiming that the experience had left her stressed and reluctant to attend school.

Are you a police officer, questioning her until she gets stressed? She already said she didn’t bring it. Why did you keep asking?”

He also allegedly accused the teacher of making things difficult for his daughter.

Apologised to avoid prolonging the argument

The teacher said they chose to remain quiet and let the parents express their dissatisfaction rather than prolong the disagreement.

They also apologised after the parents asked that their daughter not be put under further pressure over the incident.

The account does not state whether a phone was eventually found or whether the allegation against the student was confirmed.

Later heard she had left home with her boyfriend

Years later, when the student was in Form Four, the teacher claimed to have heard that she had run away from home with her boyfriend and had not returned for two weeks.

Recalling their private reaction to the news, the teacher used the phrase “ nah, ambil kau ”, roughly meaning “there you go”.

The account also described mixed reactions online, with some supporting teachers’ efforts to enforce discipline and others arguing that parents can be too protective of their children.

However, the story reflects the teacher’s version of events, with no response from the student or her parents included in the account.
