MIRI: Police issued 22 traffic summonses and arrested one person after the individual tested positive for drugs during an overnight integrated enforcement operation here.
The operation, conducted by the Miri District Police Headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, began at 11 pm on Oct 17 and ended at 3.30 am early this morning (Oct 18).
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation covered Miri town, Jalan Taman Tunku, Piasau Jaya, Senadin and Tudan, targeting illegal street racing and other activities that could threaten road safety and public order.
Police inspected 25 individuals, comprising 23 men and two women, as well as 18 motorcycles and two cars. The checks resulted in 22 traffic summonses for various offences.
The violations included riding without a driving licence, unauthorised motorcycle modifications, excessively noisy exhaust systems, missing side mirrors, failure to display registration plates and the use of non-standard registration numbers, among other technical offences.
In a separate enforcement action during the operation, one person was arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.
ACP Mohd Farhan said police would take firm action against those involved in illegal street racing and other dangerous road activities, stressing that such behaviour could endanger both the individuals involved and other road users.
He urged the public to comply with traffic laws, ensure their vehicles meet the required specifications and refrain from activities that could disrupt public order.
Members of the public with information on illegal street racing are encouraged to contact the Miri District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist authorities in taking further action.
