PUSA : Residents of Pusa are encouraged to make the most of cultural and tourism events to promote local products, generate income and introduce the district’s unique identity to a wider audience.
Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said events such as the Lantern Festival and Regata Tandang Pusa (RTS) provided opportunities for residents to act as ambassadors for Pusa by showcasing its distinctive culture, heritage and local products.
“Community participation in economic activities held in conjunction with these events not only helps increase household income but also introduces the district’s potential to visitors from outside the area,” he said when attending the Beting Maro-level Lantern Festival here recently.
Shafizan described the Lantern Festival as an opportunity to celebrate the cultural heritage of the Chinese community, which forms an integral part of Sarawak’s multiracial identity.
He said the long-standing relationships among the Malay, Chinese and Iban communities in Sarawak should continue to be nurtured through mutual respect and a willingness to embrace cultural differences.
On a related matter, Shafizan said infrastructure development, including the construction of bridges, is important in improving connectivity between rural areas and supporting local economic growth.
