Gira finds relaxation in golf, country music and books

OUTSIDE the State Legislative Assembly chamber, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang spends his downtime playing golf on weekends, listening to country music and watching action movies.

In an exclusive and light-hearted interview with the Sarawak Tribune yesterday (Oct 16), Gira speaks about his favourite sports, his taste in entertainment and the books that motivate him.

ST: What do you usually do during your free time?

Gira: Normally, I meet up with my friends and relax. On weekends, I often play golf with them to unwind. Otherwise, I would pay a visit to my constituency.

Do you play any other sports?

I used to play football when I was young. I also played other sports such as badminton, squash and tennis. When I started being a politician, I switched to golf and I still play it today.

Do you follow any trending movies or shows, or do you have a hobby when you want to relax?

I used to enjoy watching movies, but I did not have enough time to watch every single one of them. Now, when I am at home, I watch Netflix. I usually like action movies. I also watch YouTube, mostly country music.

Do you have favourite artistes or films?

I like country music. I enjoy listening to Alan Jackson, George Strait and all kinds of country music. I also listen to the Bee Gees. As for movies, I like Tom Cruise films as well as James Bond films.

Do you enjoy reading?

Yes, I normally read to motivate myself. I read simple business books to see how businesses work. I usually read books on Warren Buffett, or ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki. I like how these people progress in business.

Do you have any words for readers who want to pursue success in the future?

We are in the digital age now, especially for young people. These days, we rely on AI (Artificial Intelligence) to make our work easier. When we want to do something, we refer to AI. For example, when I prepare a speech, I give the points and AI will elaborate on them. It also checks the grammar, goes through the points and ranks them. This is something I normally do. I hope young people will continue to learn how to use AI to make it easier to carry out their tasks.
