Heavy rain triggers flash floods and landslides in Ranau and Kundasang, vehicles swept away
RANAU, Oct 12 — Continuous heavy rain triggered flash floods and landslides in several parts of Ranau and Kundasang on Sunday, with a motorcyclist also injured in a separate road accident.
Ranau district police chief Supt Mursalin Mahmud said landslides were reported at Kampung Dumpiring Bawah and Kampung Sinisian, while flash floods affected roads in Kampung Pahu, Bundu Tuhan, and other parts of Kundasang.
He said a Perodua Kancil was swept away by floodwaters and overturned near a landslide area in Kampung Sinisian, while another vehicle became trapped in a landslide at Kampung Gorowot, leaving the main route impassable; no injuries were reported in the landslide incidents.
Meanwhile, the Kundasang Civil Defence operations unit monitored fast-flowing muddy water carrying rocks and soil across a road in Kundasang Lama, as well as water overflow affecting a resident’s house, while a motorcyclist who crashed along Jalan Poring Baru was taken to Ranau Hospital for treatment.
Mursalin urged residents and motorists to remain vigilant, avoid flood- and landslide-prone routes and report emergencies promptly, adding that police and Civil Defence personnel would continue monitoring affected areas. — Daily Express
