KUCHING: Five local men have been arrested so far in connection with a series of arson attacks targeting convenience stores across several districts in Sarawak.
Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said the five men were detained to assist in the investigation into cases of mischief by fire involving several commercial premises.
“At the same time, police are tracking down eight other individuals believed to be able to assist in the investigation into the incidents,” he told a press conference at the headquarters (IPK) this morning.
Among those being sought are Kho Tze Yang, also known as Ah Yang, Tan Siong Seng (Ah Ben), Tan Seng Ming (Andrew) and Kho Tze Hong (Ah Hong).
Also listed are Alvin Chung Jia Hao (Alvin), Iwan, known as Iwan Indon, William Ong Wei Liang (William), and Chai Chuan Soon (Chai Soon).
In a related development, business rivalry is believed to be among the motives being examined by police in their investigation into the arson cases.
However, the actual motive remains under investigation and has yet to be determined pending a comprehensive inquiry.
Members of the public with information regarding the eight individuals to step forward to assist the investigation by contacting the investigating officer, Insp Tan Chiang Fook, at 018-2628805.

Saifullizan also advised the public not to make or spread speculations that could disrupt the police probe.
