Local man arrested over alleged rape of 18-year-old woman

MUKAH : A 42-year-old local man has been arrested over the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman at a residential premises in Jalan Petanak here.

Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspect was arrested on October 15 to assist in investigations after police received a report on the alleged incident.

“Preliminary investigations found that the incident allegedly occurred at about 10:00 am on October 14.

“The woman had reportedly gone to the man’s residence after receiving an invitation to meet him. She later alleged that a sexual act had taken place without her consent,” he said in his recent statement.

Rizal added that the woman was subsequently referred to Mukah Hospital for examination and further treatment.

“The suspect was brought before the Mukah Magistrates’ Court today, where the court approved a six-day remand order until October 22 to facilitate investigations.

“The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction,” he added.

Police have inspected the scene, collected evidence and recorded statements from relevant witnesses as part of their investigation.

The investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions once completed.

Rizal also urged the public not to speculate about the case or circulate the woman’s personal information, including her identity, address and telephone number, to protect her privacy and welfare.
