Mat Rempits turn public road into illegal racing circuit, complete with DIY barricades

By CS Ming · 20 Oct, 19:04 MYT

MAT Rempits can be remarkably creative when they put their minds to something, as a group of delinquent motorcyclists have demonstrated.

In a video circulating on X, a huge crowd of Mat Rempits can be seen taking over a road in the Bagan area of Batu Pahat, Johor, reportedly turning it into an illegal racing circuit.

How did they do it? By using their collective bikes to form a long barricade, effectively blocking off a good portion of the road from the passing vehicles.

Raising the audacity bar was the fact that they did all that, right in front of the toll.

Apparently, these aspiring racers did not just want a place to test their riding skills.

Gila betul puak rempit ni. Macamtu je tutup jalan sebab nak berlumba punya pasal. Lepastu mati menyusahkan orang https://t.co/d14c0Jyn6S

They also seemed to have taken it upon themselves to manage traffic, establish road closures and provide crowd control, all without the inconvenience of applying for official permission.

Naturally, netizens were scratching their heads and wondering why illegal racing on such a large scale was left unchecked, especially at the toll where security cameras and no doubt, authorities that are present nearby.

In the comment section, netizen @najibXo raised a fine point with his question:

Then there was a sarcastic @CharlesT777 pointing out that those who win then race will then get to join the police force.

His opinion about the authorities is clear.

Also, @boogiechilds subtly drew parallels between this incident with the khalwat case involving Former Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi.

@santiMIA87 , on the other hand, hinted that their days may be numbered.

The comment from @jasmineadeliaa further suggested that Malaysians are becoming increasingly frustrated with these road menaces.

Anyone who came across this illegal racing circruit will undoubtedly wonder whether they have accidentally driven into a scene from Fast & Furious: Kampung Edition.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with motorcycle enthusiasts enjoying their machines or testing their riding abilities.

Malaysia has legitimate motorsports venues where riders can pursue those interests under proper safety arrangements.

But there is a rather substantial difference between being passionate about motorcycles and treating a public road as personal property.

For now, the episode serves as another reminder that public roads are not private playgrounds, and a large crowd does not magically turn an illegal activity into an authorised event.

Otherwise, the next time motorists approach a toll plaza, they might need to prepare for an entirely new kind of road charge: not the official toll, but the unexpected price of encountering a group that has decided it owns the road. —Oct 20, 2026
