Mimi Fly, Nadia Aqilah travel to Solo to master Bayan roles

By News Desk · 13 Oct, 08:19 MYT

Determined to deliver their best performances and gain a deeper understanding of their character Bayan, actresses Mimi Fly and Nadia Aqilah took the initiative to travel to Solo, Indonesia, at their own expense.

Their decision reflects their commitment to bringing ‘Puteri Gunung Ledang (PGL) The Musical’ to life. The production is scheduled to run from October 31 to November 15.

Mimi said the decision to seek further guidance in Solo came after they attended a workshop organised by Enfiniti Productions, where they felt there was still much more to learn about their characters.

“This is my first experience in musical theatre, so everything is new to me. The intensive schedule and rehearsals over the past two to three months have been challenging, but they have helped me become better prepared.

“We took on this challenge for our own personal growth. Despite the exhaustion, I am grateful for the opportunity to gain new experiences, with the guidance and support of fellow cast members such as Nadia,” she said.

Nadia said their trip to Solo had broadened their understanding of Bayan’s concepts, philosophy and spiritual elements.

She added that learning directly from cultural arts practitioners in Solo allowed them to gain a more accurate understanding of Javanese women’s pronunciation, movements and body language.

“This production is a responsibility entrusted to us. It is not merely about singing or dancing, but also about conveying traditional stories and knowledge with sincerity.

“Learning from practitioners there made us realise the great responsibility and depth behind the character of Bayan. The experience has taught us to approach the role with greater humility as we bring it to the stage,” she said.

Directed by Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, ‘PGL The Musical’ will feature alternating performances by Mimi Fly and Nadia Aqilah, according to the scheduled performance roster.
