Nights Of Fright Is Back. Your Loudest Friend Might Scream The Loudest Too | WeirdKaya
Every friend group has that one person who insists horror movies are not scary and volunteers to lead the way into a haunted house.
Well, it might be time to let them prove it.
Nights Of Fright® 12 has returned to Sunway Lagoon, bringing eight haunted houses, one haunted theatre, three scare zones and eight thrill rides into one evening out.
Running from 25 September to 7 November 2026, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7.30pm to 11.30pm, this year’s edition introduces APE-OCALYPSE, a world where civilisation has collapsed and apes have taken control.
But the apes are only part of the story. Japanese spirits, a sinister K-pop fan club and familiar supernatural figures also have a place in this year’s lineup.
What should visitors look forward to?
We spoke to Michelle Soong, General Manager of Marketing and Business Development at Sunway Theme Parks, and Lynton V. Harris, Founder and Global Creative Director of The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company, about what awaits visitors this year.
Michelle’s advice was simple: “Let your imagination run wild.”
She shared that visitors can expect plenty of new attractions, alongside activations by the event’s sponsors.
For Lynton, keeping an event of this scale fresh each year is a key part of the creative process. He explained that this year’s central concept brings together influences from Mad Max and Planet of the Apes, combining two big themes to surprise audiences.
That same approach extends to the individual attractions. Take K-pop, for example. Turning a familiar pop culture interest into a haunted house might seem unexpected, but Lynton pointed to obsession, murder and betrayal as the ingredients behind its horror treatment.
Michelle’s personal favourite is Yokai Road
Asked what excited her most this year, Michelle picked Yokai Road.
She said the team jumped with excitement when Lynton first proposed the idea, sharing that they are fans of Japanese horror.
The attraction draws on Japanese folklore, taking visitors through a narrow alley inspired by legends associated with Fukusaki in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture. Expect ancient curses, supernatural creatures and stories that come to life beyond the lantern light.
If Japanese horror is your thing, this is one to put on your list.
The roaming characters are part of the experience too
When asked what first timers should not miss, Michelle’s answer was: “Everything in Nights Of Fright!”
Beyond the haunted houses, she highlighted the roaming characters surrounding visitors throughout the park, noting that there is plenty to experience within the evening’s limited hours.
Lynton also described this year’s cast as the event’s biggest yet, pointing to its big characters and themes as part of what makes the 12th edition exciting.
“So, we ain’t sitting down!” he said.
He also teased that the theatre would surprise people.

From angry apes to a K-pop obsession gone wrong
With nine haunted experiences to explore, there are quite a few different ways to test your courage.
Here’s what awaits you:
1. APE-OCALYPSE
This year’s central attraction drops visitors into a fallen civilisation ruled by apes, where humans are hunted and imprisoned.
The attraction brief even promises apes wielding chainsaws. That should settle who gets to walk in front.
2. Yokai Road
Step into a narrow alley where Japanese spirits and folklore take centre stage.
The journey leads towards the home of celebrated Japanese folklorist Kunio Yanagita, with supernatural encounters along the way.
3. The Freezer: Fresh Meat
Enter the fictional Kevil Hill Meat Processing Plant, where machinery, hanging carcasses and the sounds of an abattoir fill the setting.
The story puts visitors in the uncomfortable position of potentially becoming the next delivery.
4. Little Shop of Horrors: Manga UV 3D
This attraction gives the cult horror story a manga makeover, combining ultraviolet effects and 3D visuals.
At its centre is Audrey Junior, a flesh eating plant with a very particular appetite.
5. The (Not-So) Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Dorothy’s journey takes a darker turn here.
Visitors follow the Yellow Brick Road through a world of scary forests, maze creatures, the Wicked Witch and her Flying Monkeys.
6. Return to Silent Hill
The cursed town returns for another edition, inviting visitors back into streets and buildings hiding fresh horrors.
Fans of its unsettling atmosphere have another reason to answer the town’s call.
7. The Romeos & Juliet
A fictional K-pop boy band’s fan club becomes a crime scene as obsession and jealousy turn deadly.
Juliet is the ultimate superfan, while Sophia will stop at nothing to take her place.
8. Horrorwood Wax Studios
Horror icons, sinister killers and monsters fill this wax attraction.
The catch? Some of the exhibits might be a little less still than you expect.
9. Scarytales Immersive Theatre: Pontianak vs. Pocong: Origins
This haunted theatre explores the origins of two familiar supernatural figures through a story of curses, betrayal and vengeance.
It brings Malaysian and Southeast Asian folklore into the evening’s mix of scares.
There’s more to explore between the haunted houses
The night continues across three scare zones: Malaya Mayhem, The Hungry Ghosts and The Scream Scene: Stars, Slashers, Screams.
There are also eight thrill rides and live entertainment, giving your group more to do between haunted attractions.
The park map marks dining outlets, merchandise stores and activity booths too, so you can plan food stops alongside your next scare. Save a copy before heading in to help your group find its way around.
