SIBURAN : The talents, skills and products of persons with disabilities will take centre stage at the Third Joint Carnival of Four Community-Based Rehabilitation Centres (PPDK) in Puncak Borneo on Nov 21.
The carnival, organised by PPDK Bestari Siburan, will be held at Dewan Manggeng, Kampung Masaan, from 6.30 am to 4.30 pm, providing trainees with disabilities a platform to showcase their abilities while fostering greater public awareness and community support.
Councillor Halix Kuyong, chairman of the PPDK Coordination Committee for the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency, said the carnival was an important initiative to highlight the potential of PPDK trainees and encourage the community to share responsibility for supporting persons with disabilities.
He said the programme would also help boost trainees’ self-confidence and promote positive interaction between them and the wider community.
Halix chaired a planning and coordination meeting today(17 Oct) to discuss preparations and ensure the smooth implementation of the event.
The opening ceremony will be officiated by Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, while Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, who is also Deputy Minister of Transport (Air and Road), will officiate at the closing ceremony.
Four centres — PPDK Bestari Siburan, PPDK Hidup Mesra Teng Bukap, PPDK Mambong and PPDK Siniawan — will participate, with PPDK Serian also invited.
Activities lined up include fun games, singing and dancing competitions, free health screenings, lucky draws, entertainment, and stalls selling handicrafts, food and agricultural produce.
Government agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Social Welfare Department (JKM), Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), health authorities, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), will also set up booths.
Beyond showcasing trainees’ abilities, the carnival aims to raise funds for PPDK centres in the constituency.
The coordination meeting also brought together stakeholders, including trainees’ families, government agencies, private sector representatives and the local community, to strengthen cooperation for the event.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and support efforts to empower persons with disabilities, develop their potential and build a more inclusive and caring community.
