Sarawak’s NKLB initiative shortlisted for global award
THE No Kid Left Behind (NKLB) initiative, now in its third year, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious QS Reimagine Education Awards 2026 in the Access, Diversity and Inclusion category.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Saga Wee Inn said the final results would be announced in London from Dec 6 to 8.
He also said SMK Long Bedian K11 had emerged as the national champion in the Indigenous Children category of the Petrosains Tech4All 2026 competition, highlighting the potential of Sarawak’s indigenous students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), innovation and technology.
“The school will represent Malaysia at the international competition in Vienna, Austria,” he said.
Sagah also commended Abner Dominggo Collin, a Year Five pupil of SK St Edmund, Limbang, for representing Malaysia at the TeenEagle Global Final 2026 in London, United Kingdom, where he won the overall gold medal and a silver medal in Productive Skills, which covers writing and persuasive speaking.
“Well done, Abner! You have made Sarawak proud,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech on Monday (Oct 19).
Meanwhile, Sagah said the Dual Language Programme Sarawak (DLP Sarawak), now in its seventh year, continued to strengthen students’ foundations in Science and Mathematics through English.
He said the UP-DLPS 6, now in its second year, played an important role in identifying learning gaps and enabling targeted interventions.
At the secondary school level, the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP), also in its second year, provides additional academic support in Science and Mathematics for lower secondary students, as well as in pure science subjects for Form Four and Form Five students.
On the proposed Sarawak Education Council, announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during his Sarawak Budget 2027 presentation, Sagah said the ministry would take the necessary steps towards establishing the council.
“These include preparing detailed terms of reference and the relevant documentation to facilitate its implementation,” he added.
