Sports for All Fest 2026 aims to bring people together through sports

KUALA LUMPUR: The best way to bring people together is through sports, and that is what the Malaysian Olympism in Action Society (MOiAS) aims to do through its upcoming Sports for All Fest 2026.

Scheduled for Oct 18 at Avenue K, a mall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the inaugural day-long event will see visitors try their hand at several sports, including flag football and floorball. It also promises to be an inclusive affair, with opportunities for people with disabilities to try their hand at sports and workshops for parents of children involved in sports.

“Why a mall? Well, we want visibility, and a mall is a great place to do that,” MOiAS president Noraseela Khalid told Twentytwo13 .

An Olympian, Noraseela represented Malaysia in the hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics. She values the power of sports as a unifying force.

“Look around you, things are often segregated. We just want to bring people together, and sports can do that. I’ve seen it do that,” said Noraseela.

“I still get goosebumps when I see parents and children smile and play sports as a team.”

She stressed that conversations about sport should not be restricted to the elite few.

“Only a small percentage of Malaysians make it to the elite level in sports. But that doesn’t mean we should overlook the rest. They, too, can and should play sports. Sports is for all,” Noraseela added.

The Federal Territories Athletics Association will also run a programme to help people understand the basic elements of athletics – running, throwing and jumping. Other associations that will be on hand to introduce their sports to the masses are Malaysia American Football Association and Malaysia Floorball Association.

“It’s not just for kids, but for all ages. Anyone who wants to learn more about athletics and other sports should drop by,” Noraseela added.

Sports for All Fest 2026 is organised by MOiAS and 360 All Ability in partnership with Avenue K. It will be held at the Main Atrium (Level G) of the mall from 10am to 10pm.
