Woman dies after car collides with lorry on Pan Borneo Highway

By Gretta Bala · 15 Oct, 12:07 MYT

MIRI : A 24-year-old woman was killed after the car she was driving reportedly collided with the rear of a lorry carrying stones on the Pan Borneo Highway near Niah this morning.

The victim, identified as Kimberly Clarissa Reene Anding, was trapped in the driver’s seat of a Toyota Camry Hybrid when firefighters arrived at the scene at 7.42am.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said its team from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station found the car in the right lane of the highway, on the Bintulu-to-Miri route.

The lorry believed to have been involved was no longer at the scene when the rescuers arrived.

Firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to free the woman from the wreckage. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, and her body was subsequently handed over to the police.

The rescue team also began clearing the road after a tow truck removed the damaged car.

Five firefighters and one Fire Rescue Tender were deployed, alongside medical and police personnel.
