Zombie Run 4.0 draws 2,000 participants in Sibu

By Andy Chua · 11 Oct, 11:33 MYT

SIBU : Some 2,000 participants took part in Zombie Run 4.0 at Permai Lake Garden here last night (Oct 10).

The event was organised by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) N.54 Pelawan and Kelab Larian Jalan dan Bukit Sibu, with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle, encouraging youth participation and strengthening community unity through a unique recreational experience.

The event was graced by PDP Nangka Division chairman Teo Choon Teck who represented Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Participants enjoyed a series of exciting activities, including free zombie makeup, Zombie Zumba, a Best Costume Competition and the main highlight of the evening, the 3KM Zombie Night Run around Permai Lake Garden.

The event also featured creative horror-themed decorations and entertainment, creating a unique atmosphere for participants of different ages and backgrounds.

Organising chairman Willie Ling, who is also the PDP N.54 Pelawan Youth chief, expressed his appreciation to the participants, volunteers, sponsors and organising committee for their support in making the event a success.

“Zombie Run 4.0 is not just about running. It is about bringing people together, regardless of race, religion, age or background, to enjoy a healthy and meaningful evening as one community.

“We are extremely happy to see approximately 2,000 participants joining us tonight. This overwhelming response shows that the people of Sibu are always supportive of creative and exciting community activities,”he said at the event.

The objective of the run was to encourage more people, especially the younger generation, to participate in healthy outdoor activities while creating opportunities for families and friends to spend quality time together.

Through events like Zombie Run, the organiser hoped to promote Sibu as a vibrant destination for recreational activities and community tourism.

Willie added that the event was designed to be different from conventional running competitions by combining sports with entertainment and creativity.

“Not everyone enjoys competitive running, but everyone deserves an opportunity to participate in a fun and healthy activity.

“That is why we introduced free zombie makeup, Zombie Zumba and the Best Costume Competition. We want participants to enjoy the entire experience, not just the three-kilometre run.

“We also believe community events can benefit local businesses by attracting visitors, encouraging spending and creating greater exposure for local brands,”he added.

Willie also conveyed his sincere appreciation to Tiong for his continuous encouragement and support towards community and youth development programmes.

Looking ahead, Willie expressed hope that more creative sports and recreational programmes could be organised in Sibu to encourage greater public participation.

“We hope Zombie Run will continue growing and become one of Sibu’s signature annual recreational events.

“Most importantly, we want to show that when community organisations, young people, businesses and volunteers work together, we can create meaningful programmes that bring happiness and positive energy to our town.

“Tonight, we are not only celebrating Zombie Run 4.0. We are celebrating the spirit of togetherness among the people of Sibu,” he added.
