1,059 applications for new community leader posts under review

By Clement Erik Wong · 13 Oct, 10:48 MYT

A total of 1,059 applications to establish new community leader positions across Sarawak, including several areas in Lundu, are still under evaluation.

Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat (GPS-Bukit Goram) said the applications had been reviewed based on the needs and general requirements for creating new positions for community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK).

“The applications are currently undergoing further evaluation and review before being submitted for consideration and approval,” he said during question-and-answer session on Tuesday (Oct 13).

He was responding to a question on the status of an application submitted in 2021 by the Tanjong Datu Service Centre through the Lundu District Office to establish a new penghulu position for the Malay Zone in Sematan.

The application was made due to the large number of villages under the supervision of the existing penghulu.

He said 1,059 applications were received from throughout Sarawak, including requests involving several areas in Lundu.
