THE Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (SSEU) opened 13 investigation papers involving gas distribution licences and pipeline installations up to September this year, as its enforcement operations surpassed last year’s total.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said the unit conducted 15 operations during the period, compared with 12 throughout 2025.
“Up to September 2026, SSEU recorded an increase in enforcement activities, with fifteen operations successfully conducted and thirteen IPs opened which comprised eleven cases related to gas distribution licences and two cases related to gas pipeline installations,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (Oct 19).
Last year’s operations resulted in four investigation papers, involving three offences under the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016 and one under the Forests Ordinance 2015.
Sikie said SSEU worked closely with the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUT) and other enforcement agencies in carrying out coordinated operations.
Beyond enforcement, SSEU and MUT jointly conducted 11 awareness programmes to educate business operators and stakeholders on regulatory requirements governing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales and gas pipeline installations.
The programmes aimed to improve compliance and safety awareness while ensuring business premises met the relevant requirements.
On efforts to combat the misappropriation and smuggling of controlled goods, he said SSEU continued to collaborate with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) through Op Tiris Bersepadu 4.0.
Enforcement operations this year led to the seizure of 122 LPG cylinders, comprising 88 empty cylinders, including 16 MyGaz cylinders, and 34 filled cylinders, as well as a lorry.
Separately, the total tender value for the disposal of exhibits and forfeited assets involving four assets handled by SSEU this year amounted to RM406,600.
KPDN also opened one investigation paper involving licensing requirements for oil tankers and the storage of controlled goods in an unlicensed warehouse, with various items worth an estimated RM120,400 seized during the operation.
