2022 new year’s day video twisted into ‘Bangladeshi protest’ in KL’

By FMT Reporters · 17 Oct, 22:23 MYT

A video clip purporting to show a protest by Bangladeshis was created from video of 2022 new year's day celebrations in Bukit Bintang, police said. PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur police denied claims that a group of Bangladeshis staged a protest in the capital, saying the 15-second clip circulating online, was from a 2022 video of new year celebrations in Bukit Bintang.

City police chief Fadil Marsus said the video had been manipulated using artificial intelligence. "The video is old, as the Yayasan Selangor building in the background is shown to be still old and dilapidated," he said in a statement.

The chants purportedly made by the protestors in the video referred to the Comilla district in Bangladesh.

"Kuala Lumpur police confirms that no protests involving Bangladeshis or any other people took place in Bukit Bintang from January until October this year," he said.
