Basketball association mourns death of chairman

By News Desk · 20 Oct, 09:24 MYT

SIBU :The Sibu Basketball Association is mourning for the loss of its chairman Lee Jing Fook who died in an accident on Monday (Oct 19)

The association in its Facebook posting today also extended its condolence to Lee’s family.

“The entire board of directors and committee members of Sibu Basketball Association mourn together.

At this moment, the basketball association mourns together, and we wish the family strength and resilience in their time of grief,”it said.

Lee was the association’s chairman for the 2019-2026 term.

According to a Bomba report, Lee, 43, was killed in a head-on collision involving a Perodua Kenari and a palm oil tanker lorry along Jalan Tanjung Manis towards Sibu.

The tanker, driven by a 51-year-old man, was travelling from Sibu towards Tanjung Manis, while Lee was heading in the opposite direction towards Sibu.

The two vehicles were believed to have collided head-on.

The impact of the collision reportedly threw Lee out of his vehicle and into a large ditch near the accident scene.

Bomba said members of the public had moved him to the edge of the ditch before firefighters arrived.

Lee was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, the tanker driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Tanjung Manis Health Clinic for treatment.
