These aren’t milk cartons. CMF launches its first Bluetooth speakers with 18-hour battery life
CMF, the sub-brand of Nothing , has introduced its first portable Bluetooth speakers. Meet the CMF Speaker S and CMF Speaker M.
Both models feature a distinctive milk carton-inspired design, Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, IP68 dust and water resistance and up to 18 hours of battery life.
The smaller CMF Speaker S offers 10W audio output, while the larger Speaker M delivers 35W. Both models also support stereo pairing and Auracast-based Party Mode, allowing users to play music across multiple compatible speakers.
CMF Speaker S and Speaker M Specs and Features
The CMF Speaker S and Speaker M feature a distinctive rectangular design that resembles a milk or juice carton.
They also feature swappable front panels and knobs, allowing users to customise their appearance.
The smaller CMF Speaker S gets a compact upright form factor with a built-in attachment point. This allows users to attach it to a strap or carabiner for easier attachment and handling.
The Speaker S measures 130.5mm tall, 85mm wide and 44mm thick, weighing 334g.
For audio, the Speaker S features a custom-tuned 45mm full-range driver and two passive radiators. It delivers 10W RMS output, with a frequency response of 70Hz to 20kHz.
Meanwhile, the larger CMF Speaker M measures 220mm tall, 85mm wide and 54mm thick, weighing 602g. Instead of a round cut out hole at the corner, the M features an integrated carrying handle.
The Speaker M gets a more powerful dual-driver setup consisting of a 70mm woofer rated at 25W and a 16mm tweeter rated at 10W. Together, they deliver 35W RMS output with a frequency response of 60Hz to 20kHz.
Both speakers feature Adaptive Tuning, which automatically analyses audio playback and adjusts the output and equaliser settings in real time. There’s also Ultra Bass for enhanced low frequencies, Wide Soundstage for a wider sound experience, and Night Mode.
Similar to Nothing and CMF earbuds, users can customise their listening experience through the Nothing X app, which offers four EQ presets: Balanced, More Bass, More Treble and Voice. Custom EQ is also supported.
For those who want a stereo setup, CMF allows two identical Speaker S or Speaker M units to be paired together, providing dedicated left and right audio channels.
There’s also an Auracast-based Party Mode, which enables synchronised audio playback across multiple compatible speakers. This includes supported speakers from other brands, so users are not necessarily limited to CMF products.
In terms of connectivity, both models support Bluetooth 6.0 with a claimed range of over 100 metres in open space. They also support NFC tap-to-pair, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for quick connections.
Both CMF speakers support dual-device connections, allowing the speakers to connect to two devices simultaneously. Supported Bluetooth audio codecs include AAC, SBC and LC3, although LC3 is limited to Auracast audio.
Besides wireless connectivity, CMF has included USB-C audio support for wired digital playback, with a claimed latency of less than 60ms. This could be better suited for watching videos or gaming on a desktop.
Both wireless speakers feature a physical control knob for adjusting volume, controlling playback, skipping tracks and activating Ultra Bass. There are also dedicated buttons for power, Bluetooth pairing and Auracast.
Despite their different sizes, both the Speaker S and Speaker M carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. According to CMF, the speakers can withstand immersion in fresh water at depths of up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under laboratory conditions.
As for battery life, the smaller Speaker S packs a 2,600mAh battery, while the larger Speaker M gets a 4,900mAh battery. Despite the difference in capacity, both are rated for up to 18 hours of playback at 50% volume with Ultra Bass enabled.
The Speaker S takes approximately 2.5 hours to charge fully, while the Speaker M requires around 3 hours using a 5V/3A USB-C power adapter.
Both models also support quick charging, where a 10-minute charge can provide up to one hour of playback.
