Heated row over jealousy erupts into fistfight, police probe

By Allan Jay · 20 Oct, 13:26 MYT

KUCHING : Jealousy allegedly sparked a brawl between two men in front of an eatery at Kenyalang Park Market here, leaving both injured.

The fight, involving the men aged 24 and 27, broke out at around 4:00 am on Sunday (Oct. 18), and was captured in a 1-minute-12-second video that has since gone viral on social media.

Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that police have received a report on the incident on Monday (Oct 19).

“Investigations found that jealousy and dissatisfaction had led to a heated argument before the dispute escalated into a physical fight.

“The altercation was eventually broken up by members of the public at the scene,” he said.

Alexson stated that the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray, which carries a penalty of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, upon conviction.

Members of the public are urged to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, and avoid arguments that could escalate into violence in public places.

Those with information on the incident can contact the investigating officer, Insp. Logeswara, at 018-2914239 or the district police headquarters (IPD) at 082-244444.
