A video of an Indonesian man expressing his heartbreak over the ongoing haze crisis has caught the attention of netizens, including Malaysians.
In the video , Deny Priyatna (@orangudeny) highlighted the plight of Kalimantan residents who continue to breathe in smoke as fires burn across the region, while President Prabowo Subianto remains occupied with political matters amid the ongoing crisis.
Indonesian man urges action as wildfires threaten protected ecosystems
Deny warned that forest fires continue to burn across Indonesia, including inside Tanjung Puting National Park, while the government remains focused on political appointments and filling positions on the Presidential Advisory Council.
He stressed that the situation is no longer just another fire, but a growing threat to one of Indonesia’s most important protected ecosystems, as well as the orangutans and local communities that depend on it.
“I’m tired of talking about the haze and wildfires, but I need to address this. The situation has become more alarming, with the latest information pointing to a new hotspot dangerously close to the park’s core zone. It’s probably 2km from a small river where visitors regularly go canoeing, and only about 5km from an orangutan feeding site,” he wrote.
“This is an emergency”
Deny stressed that the situation has reached an alarming point , urging the authorities to treat the ongoing forest fires as an emergency and step in as soon as possible.
“What’s needed right now is water bombing as soon as possible. Please don’t wait for the rain. This is really an emergency,” he wrote.
He also questioned the government’s priorities, pointing out that while political appointments continue to take the spotlight, the forest fires are still burning with no effective solution in sight .
“The question is not just where the government’s attention is, but what its priorities are when one of Indonesia’s natural treasures is literally going up in flames,” he added.
