MUKAH: A woman screamed after spotting a phone being held over her toilet cubicle at work, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old contract worker suspected of peeping on her.
The incident occurred at around 12:40 pm on Monday (Oct. 12) when the victim, an employee at the Mukah Divisional Health Office, was using a toilet on the building’s second floor.
Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the woman looked up and saw a light blue phone extended over the cubicle partition, apparently to photograph her.
“Her scream sent the suspect fleeing, while a colleague reportedly saw a man rushing down the stairs. The suspect was identified as a contract worker carrying out repair work at the building. He was arrested later the same day,” he said.
Police also seized an Oppo A5 phone, a red-and-black short-sleeved shirt, and a pair of black jeans as evidence.
The case is being investigated under Sections 377D and 509 of the Penal Code for gross indecency and insulting a woman’s modesty.
Rizal said the suspect has been remanded for three days until October 16 to facilitate investigations.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour or any acts that threaten personal safety, privacy and dignity.
