SEGAMAT, Oct 16 — A 70-year-old man sustained a forehead injury after he was allegedly struck with a tin of glue by a man outside a business premises in Jalan Mohd Yusof, Kampung Abdullah yesterday, Sinar Harian reported.
Segamat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred after the victim confronted the suspect for allegedly making a commotion outside the premises.
The suspect allegedly retaliated by hitting the elderly man on the head with the tin before fleeing the scene, he said in a statement today.
According to the Malay daily, the victim received treatment at Segamat Hospital for a cut to his forehead.
Police subsequently arrested a 40-year-old local man believed to be involved in the incident following intelligence gathered by the Segamat district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division.
Police also seized a tin of glue, a shirt and a pair of jeans to assist investigations.
Mohd Jumazanzahir said checks found that the suspect had 33 previous records involving criminal and narcotics offences, while an initial urine screening test returned negative for drugs.
He added that the suspect admitted to his involvement in the incident during further questioning.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident was believed to have stemmed from the suspect’s anger at being reprimanded by the victim.
The suspect was also believed to have been intoxicated at the time, he said.
