Man with four priors caught with suspected meth
SELANGAU : A local man with four prior criminal records was arrested for allegedly having suspected methamphetamine in his possession by the roadside on Monday (Oct. 12).
The 38-year-old was taken into custody by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ near Sungai Meruan Dijih.
Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said during inspection, the suspect handed over a straw tube containing suspected methamphetamine.
Both the suspect and the drugs, weighing 0.45 gramme (g) and valued at RM50, were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.
“A preliminary urine screening on him also returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks found that the suspect had four prior records, two cases under Section 420 of the Penal Code and two under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted owning the drugs and had been abusing drugs since May this year.
Rizal said the suspect has been remanded for three days until October 16 to facilitate investigations under Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police are also working to identify and trace the source of the drugs.
He assured that Mukah police would continue to take firm action against those involved in drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
