PADAWAN: A police chase through Matang ended with the arrest of two men and the seizure of a Perodua Kancil loaded with tools, knives and other items suspected to be linked to a string of theft cases.
The suspects, aged 35 and 43, were arrested by Padawan police task force at Lorong Harmoni 3, Taman Sri Harmony, at around 12.30am on Oct 20.
Both men allegedly tried to flee when police moved in, sparking a chase before a struggle broke out during their arrest.
Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said police seized the Perodua Kancil along with a collection of items found inside.
Among them include car jacks, metal and rubber hammers, scissors, pliers, cutting tools, a tyre wrench, a digital multimeter and a kerambit knife.
The arrests were made in connection with investigations into alleged mischief, housebreaking and attempted housebreaking under Sections 427, 457 and 511 of the Penal Code.
“During interrogation, the 35-year-old suspect admitted to involvement in the incident together with the older suspect and two other individuals, who are still at large.
“He also allegedly told that he was driving the Kancil, which belonged to his father-in-law, while the other individual still at large was driving a black Perodua Myvi.
“Both suspects also admitted to drug abuse and claimed they obtained their supply from a man, who allegedly sells drugs around Matang,” he said.
Police are investigating whether the pair were also involved in car rim and cable thefts, with the seized items raising suspicions of possible links to the cases.
The suspects are being held at Beratok police lock-up to facilitate investigations.
Barry said efforts are underway to track down the two remaining suspects.
