‘Ops Tapis’ nets 20, seizes over RM7,000 worth of drugs

By Allan Jay · 14 Oct, 16:38 MYT

KUCHING : Twenty people were arrested and two types of narcotics worth over RM7,000 seized during a three-day special operation this week.

Dubbed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’, the operation was conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) from October 11 to 13, targeting drug trafficking and abuse in the district.

Of those arrested, three were detained under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and five were arrested under Section 12(2).

Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the other 12 were held under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

“Also seized during the operation were 6.08 grammes of suspected methamphetamine and 35 milliletres of suspected cannabis liquid. The total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM7,386,” he said.

Alexson stated that the arrests and seizures were the result of continuous intelligence gathering and public cooperation.

He assured that police would not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking as possessing, distributing or protecting drug-related activities were serious offences under the law.

Members of the public with information on drug-related activities can report them to the Bukit Aman NCID’s hotline at 012-2087222 or the Sarawak NCID’s hotline at 017-5929211.
