THE proposal to upgrade Engkilili from a sub-district to a full district need to be expedited to improve public service delivery and accelerate development in the surrounding areas.
Engkilili assemblyman, Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said the proposed upgrade was important to ensure residents, particularly those living in longhouses and villages, could access government services more conveniently without having to travel long distances.
He reiterated his call for the proposal to be given serious consideration by the state government, while expressing appreciation for the allocation approved in connection with the initiative.
“I greatly appreciate the approval of the allocation related to this initiative and hope that all administrative arrangements and implementation processes can be expedited, subject to the procedures and decisions of the relevant authorities,” he said.
He said this when debating the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 during the State Legislative Assemby (DUN) Sitting today.
Rayong stressed that upgrading Engkilili’s administrative status would involve more than a change in name, as it could strengthen government service delivery, improve development coordination and facilitate public access to essential services.
He said the move would also help establish Engkilili as a more effective service centre for surrounding communities.
He called for the necessary infrastructure and administrative facilities to be given due attention, including office buildings, the placement of government officers, service counters and better coordination among government agencies.
Rayong said these arrangements were essential to ensure that the proposed upgrade translated into tangible benefits for the people.
“Our aim is to ensure that the people genuinely benefit from this development, particularly longhouse and village residents who currently have to travel long distances to access government services,” he said.
