RESIDENTS across the Krian constituency are expected to enjoy treated water supply by 2028 upon completion of two projects worth RM425 million.
Its assemblyman, Datuk Friday Belik said the projects would address water supply needs in rural areas, particularly longhouses and villages that have yet to receive reliable treated water supply.
He said the projects comprise a RM185-million water supply system for Saratok district and the RM240-million upgrading of the Kaki Wong Water Treatment Plant.
“Once these projects are completed, the entire Krian constituency is expected to receive treated water supply from the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) by 2028,” he said.
Friday said this when debating in support of the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
He said the RM185-million project, which commenced on December 1 last year, covers Ulu Sebetan, Brayang, Mudong, Tapang Ujan and Kop Ibus.
Meanwhile, the upgrading of the Kaki Wong Water Treatment Plant, which began on June 8 this year, will double its capacity from 30 million litres per day to 60 million litres per day.
Friday said access to clean and reliable water remains a basic necessity, particularly for rural communities.
He stressed that water supply is essential not only for daily needs but also for health, hygiene, education and economic activities.
“Our aim is to ensure that no household is left without access to clean and safe water, including those in rural areas,” he said.
