MERADONG: Three persons with no previous criminal or drug records were arrested for suspected drug-related activities in Bintangor during a three-day police operation.
Meradong district police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the suspects, two men and a woman aged 24, 30 and 28 respectively, were detained during Ops Tapis Khas conducted from Oct 11 to 13.
He said the operation was carried out by a team from the Meradong district police headquarters (IPD) task force at several locations around Bintangor.
“Following their arrests, the three suspects were brought to the Meradong IPD, where urine screening tests were conducted.
“All three tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement today.
Tansli said checks on the suspects’ backgrounds found that none of them had any previous criminal or drug-related records.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years.
Tansli said police also arrested four local men during the same operation in connection with previous drug offences.
The four were subsequently charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Sarikei Magistrate’s Court.
Each was fined RM4,000, in default four months’ imprisonment, and ordered to undergo two years of supervision.
All four were sent to prison after failing to pay their fines.
Tansli urged members of the public with information on drug activities to contact the Bintangor police station at 084-693222.
