KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman left local social media users amused following his response to a post on Threads.
The 34-year-old, who was present at today’s tabling of Budget 2027 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Parliament, caught the attention of a Threads user who praised him for finding the time to attend despite his wedding ceremony taking place tomorrow.
“Today is for the rakyat, tomorrow is for the wife. (I) need to show up for both,” Syed Saddiq wrote in response to the post.
His response garnered over 170,000 views with over 12,000 likes along with comments from social media users amused by his choice of words.

“He mentions ‘wife’ referring to someone else but I’m the one who’s feeling the butterflies,” commented user bloombae.byainawanie.
“From fiancée, to future wife to now just wife, so cute,” commented user nadhrahy_.
“Wow, after this we will be hearing the word ‘wife’ more often,” user sue_saraana96 commented.
Apart from local social media users, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul was also heard wishing “ Selamat Pengantin Baru Muar ” (“Congratulations on your wedding, Muar”) at the end of the Budget 2027 tabling, referring to Syed Saddiq’s constituency.
Tomorrow will mark the main wedding ceremony between Syed Saddiq and singer-actress Bella Astillah, which will take place at the 118th floor of the Merdeka 118.
A special dinner reception will follow on October 18 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).
The couple also announced two public wedding receptions, dubbed Kenduri Rakyat (people’s feast), in Muar, Johor, on October 25 and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on October 31.
The couple invited members of the public to share in their happiness.
