Two motorists arrested for drink-driving in Padawan
PADAWAN : Two motorists were arrested after failing breathalyser tests during ‘Ops Mabuk’ at a roadblock along Jalan Penrissen, Mile 6, between Thursday night and early Friday morning (Oct 9).
Police carry out ‘Ops Mabuk’ along Jalan Penrissen, Kuching.
Padawan District Police Chief, Supt Barry William said the operation was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department from 11:00 pm on October 9 to 5:30 am on October 10, involving one senior police officer and 11 personnel.
“During the operation, two men were stopped for inspection, and both tested positive for alcohol exceeding the permitted limit.
“They were arrested under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) following screening and subsequent EBA II breath tests,” he said.
The suspects, a 30-year-old private-sector worker riding a motorcycle and a 31-year-old civil servant driving a compact sedan, were taken to the Batu Lintang/Batu Kawa Police Station for further action.
During the operation, several offences involving cars were also detected, including modified exhaust systems, glaring headlights, non-compliant or fancy number plates, driving without a valid licence, missing horns, expired motor vehicle licences (LKM) and driving without insurance coverage.
Barry said summonses were also issued to motorcyclists and van drivers for offences including modified exhaust systems, missing side mirrors and expired licences.
He said the operation aimed to curb drink-driving, prevent motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
