PUSA : The Batang Saribas 2 Bridge here is scheduled to open to traffic on Dec 5 this year, marking another significant milestone in improving connectivity and stimulating economic growth in the area.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the 2.43-kilometre bridge would strengthen links between communities and create greater opportunities for economic activities once it becomes operational.
Abang Johari said the opening of Batang Saribas 1 Bridge in July 2025, Sungai Krian Bridge in March 2026 and Batang Lupar 1 Bridge in May 2026 had been important developments in improving connectivity across the division.
He said the infrastructure improvements should be fully utilised to benefit local communities, particularly those involved in agriculture, fisheries and small businesses.
“With better connectivity between areas, agricultural and fishery products can be marketed more easily, businesses can grow and more visitors will have the opportunity to come to Pusa,” he said at the launching of the 3rd edition of Regata Tandang Sari, Pusa 2026 here Saturday.
His speech was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He added that the benefits of development should translate into higher incomes and improved well-being for the people.
Abang Johari said Pusa has its own strengths in agriculture, fisheries and local community-based enterprises, adding that these sectors should be developed through a more structured approach to generate better incomes for residents.
He also hoped to see more local entrepreneurs expand their businesses, improve product quality and explore wider markets.
The use of digital platforms, he said, could help small-scale entrepreneurs promote their products to customers beyond the district.
At the same time, he stressed that the younger generation should be given opportunities to participate in emerging economic sectors without neglecting the potential of traditional industries.
“With appropriate training, skills and support, they can become drivers of Pusa’s economic growth in the future,” he said.
