BAU : The upgrading of Bau Hospital should be prioritised in Budget 2027 to provide a new building with sufficient capacity to serve the district’s growing population and healthcare needs.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that the proposal to upgrade and build the new facility had been submitted.
However, he expressed his disappointment that it was not listed in Budget 2027.
He noted that Bau Hospital not only provides healthcare services to the local community, but also receives patients from Stungkor, Lundu, as well as parts of Padawan and Penrissen.
“We have 76,000 citizens and this hospital serves the whole of Bau and beyond. Communities from Padawan and Penrissen also sometimes come to Bau.
“Therefore, we need a more suitable building equipped with the latest facilities for Bau Hospital, but it is unfortunate that it was left off the list,” he told reporters when met at an event here today (Oct 11).
In addition, Henry said that the hospital upgrade is urgently needed alongside modern, up-to-date equipment.
During the tabling of Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat last Friday (Oct 9), Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an allocation of RM1.2 billion for the maintenance and repair of all public hospital and clinic infrastructure, including the upgrading of remaining dilapidated clinics.
