Elderly man succumbs to injuries after accident
SARATOK : A 78-year-old man has succumbed to serious head injuries following a two-vehicle collision at the Saratok P-turn junction along the Pan Borneo Highway on Sunday (Oct 11).
The accident occurred at 10:57 am at KM418.4 of the highway and involved a Perodua Bezza and a Toyota Hilux.
The victim, Bohari Derahman, was travelling in the front passenger seat of the Bezza when the collision occurred.
He was rushed to Saratok Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, the 60-year-old Hilux driver and the 77-year-old Bezza driver also sustained injuries and were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie said preliminary investigations found that the Hilux was travelling towards Betong when the Bezza allegedly emerged suddenly from the P-turn junction.
“The Hilux driver was unable to avoid the car, resulting in the collision at KM418.4 of the Pan Borneo Highway.
“The accident was believed to have been caused by the Bezza driver’s failure to give way to oncoming traffic before entering the highway,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
