Fire destroys three houses, another damaged

BINTULU: Three semi-permanent houses were destroyed while a fourth was damaged in a fire at Kampung Jepak Ulu on Thursday (Oct 8) night.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call on the incident was received at 8.09pm.

Firefighters from the Bintulu fire station were dispatched to the scene, located about 10 kilometres away, with support from the Kidurong fire station and a volunteer fire squad.

“Upon arrival at 8.18pm, the operational team found that three semi-permanent houses were fully engulfed in flames and were 100 per cent destroyed.

“A fourth nearby house sustained approximately 10 per cent damage due to radiated heat from the blaze,” it said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire and save 18 neighbouring houses that were at risk of being caught in the fire.

No casualties or injuries were reported during the incident.

Firefighting operations were conducted using hose lines connected to a nearby fire hydrant as well as a water tanker dispatched to the site to ensure an continuous water supply.

The operation was brought under control at 9pm and ended at 1.04 am.

The total losses and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.
