KUCHING : Muara Lassa Bridge in Mukah Division has won a national road engineering award, with four projects under the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) making the nine-project shortlist.
The bridge clinched the Large Scale Projects category for projects valued at more than RM100 million at the Road Engineering Excellence Awards 2026.
In a statement today, PWD Sarawak said the award reflected the technical expertise and collaboration of those involved in the project.
“Muara Lassa Bridge’s success reflects the technical expertise, dedication and collaboration of those involved in its planning, design and construction,” it said.
Conferred by the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM), the award recognises outstanding road engineering projects built in Malaysia.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi presented the award during the 13th Malaysian Road Conference and Exhibition 2026 and the 6th International Road Federation Global Asia-Pacific Regional Congress in Kuala Lumpur.
Besides Muara Lassa Bridge, the shortlisted JKR Sarawak projects were Marudi Bridge, Sebauh Bridge and the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport.
The department said the recognition shows its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that improves connectivity and supports Sarawak’s development.
“This recognition will serve as further motivation for the department to uphold engineering excellence and continuously improve infrastructure delivery for the benefit of the people,” it said.
